Ayotte Introduces Legislation to Support POW/MIA Families and Help Bring Fallen Heroes Home

Statement

Date: Sept. 29, 2016
Location: Washington, DC

Yesterday, U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte introduced the Bring Our Heroes Home Act of 2016 (S.3448). In order to provide more transparency for families of POW/MIAs and support their efforts to bring their loved ones home, the legislation would create a Review Board at the National Archives to declassify unnecessarily classified records that may provide new information on the whereabouts of POW/MIAs.

"We have a solemn obligation to find our fallen heroes and bring them home, in addition to doing everything we can to support our POW/MIA families. Too often, red tape and unnecessary classification stymie the tireless efforts of POW/MIA families to get answers and find their loved ones. These families have sacrificed so much for our country, and they undoubtedly deserve the maximum possible transparency and responsiveness from the federal government," said Ayotte. "That is why I am proud to stand with POW/MIA families and introduce the Bring Our Heroes Home act, which will help them get the information they need to find their loved ones."
